RAMACIOTTI FOUNDATIONS - 2013 APPLICATION INFORMATION
As trustee of the Ramaciotti Foundations, Perpetual would like to advise that applications are now open for all categories of the Ramaciotti Awards.
Ramaciotti Establishment and Equipment Grants
These grants of up to $75,000 are awarded to individuals or groups in universities, public hospitals or institutes undertaking biomedical research. They are awarded each year in two divisions – establishment and equipment. Establishment Grants provide financial support for emerging researchers, while Equipment Grants go towards the purchase of a major piece of equipment.

Ramaciotti Medal for Excellence in Biomedical Research
This $50,000 grant is awarded to a person who has made an outstanding discovery (or discoveries) in clinical or experimental biomedical research that has had an important impact on biomedical science, clinical medicine, or the way in which healthcare is delivered.

Two awards will be available:
1.An early career award, for a person up to six years post-PhD - awarded for research performance over the previous five years.
2.A distinguished research career award, awarded for research performance over the previous ten years.

The Victorian Government and the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) present the Premier's Award for Health & Medical Research each year during ASMR Medical Research Week. The Award recognises achievement by Victoria's early career health and medical researchers. The Award is open to PhD students or recently completed postgraduates whose research has or is being undertaken in a Victorian research institution in any field of health or medical research.

NHMRC TRIP Fellowships provide support for health care professionals (e.g hospital-based doctors, general practitioners, physiotherapists, nurses, midwives, radiologists, and other allied health providers), health care personnel (health service managers, hospital department leaders, clinical trial managers) and policy makers to translate evidence into health care and public health improvements. Applications are now open and close May 1 at 5pm.

The Australian Academy of Science has opened nominations for its suite of awards, fellowships, bursaries and scholarships. With a prize pool of nearly $300,000, they’ll be recognising researchers in chemistry, genetics, medicine, maths, physics, environment and geology. There are also specific awards for outstanding women and young scientists. Nominations close for their awards in July, and for their fellowships in August.

Nominations will open on 18 March for the 2013 L’Oréal Australia and New Zealand For Women in Science Fellowships. These $25,000 fellowships are awarded to three women scientists no more than five years post-PhD, although allowances are made for maternity leave. Past Fellows have used their fellowships to travel overseas, to hire research assistants and to pay for childcare.

Fresh Science takes young researchers with no media experience and turns them into spokespeople for science. This year more than 60 early-career researchers will get a taste of life in the limelight, with a day of media training and a public event in their home state. Then the media spotlight will take on 12 of the best and brightest young scientists, putting them through a four-day media boot camp in Melbourne.
If you know any smart young researchers, please forward this information and encourage them to nominate them for Fresh Science 2013.

Each year the Australian Government rewards and celebrates the nation’s best scientists and science teachers through the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science. Five leaders in science and education will share in a $500,000 prize pool, which will be presented by the Prime Minister and the Minister for Science and Research at a dinner in the Great Hall of Parliament House, Canberra.

Cancer Australia and its Funding Partners are pleased to announce the Research Priorities for the 2013 round of the priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme. Funding will be available for research that addresses the priorities of Cancer Australia and its funding partners.

The Australian Lung Foundation has just released the details of the round of Research Awards that will be offered in 2013. All applications must be submitted to The Thoracic Society of Australia & New Zealand (TSANZ) by Monday 19 November 2012. Successful applicants will be notified early Feb 2013 and all awards will be presented during the TSANZ Conference in Darwin on 23-27 March 2013

AICR awards grants to support fundamental or translational research into the causes, mechanisms, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of cancer. They do not support clinical research. They will consider applications that include some clinical research in a project which is mostly basic or translational. However, completely clinical applications, such as intervention studies, clinical trials or health care delivery research are beyond the remit of AICR. Before submitting applications that include clinical research, potential applicants are strongly encouraged to contact AICR for advice.

NHMRC Partnerships for Better Health- Projects (Partnership Projects) will help create partnerships among decision makers, policy makers, managers, clinicians and researchers. The funding scheme provides funding and support to create new opportunities for researchers and policy makers to work together to define research questions and understake research as well as to interpret and implement the findings.
